Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Proletarian Library uses and why.

Who is responsible for your information?

Proletarian Library is responsible for the personal information described here. Contact the library with privacy questions or requests.

Information we use

If you create an account, the library stores:

  • Your email address and display name.
  • A securely hashed form of your password, never the password itself.
  • Your email-verification status and last login time.
  • Your language and reading preferences.
  • Your starred items, lists, highlights and notes.
  • Temporary email-verification and password-change tokens.

Hosting and security systems may process technical information such as IP addresses, browser information, requested pages, timestamps and security events in ordinary server logs.

Why we use it

Information is used to provide and secure accounts, supply requested account features, send essential account messages, prevent abuse, resolve technical problems and operate the library. The legal bases are providing the service you request and the library’s legitimate interests in operating and securing it. Consent will be requested separately if a future feature requires it.

Cookies and local storage

An essential session cookie keeps users logged in, protects forms and supports account security. It expires when the browser session ends. Browser local storage remembers interface choices such as theme, font, paragraph alignment and BionicReading. Saved account preferences are also stored with the account.

The library does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies.

Service providers

Hosting, database and email providers help operate the site. Cloudflare Turnstile is used during registration to detect automated abuse. Providers may process limited information on the library’s behalf or under their own legal responsibilities, including outside your country with appropriate safeguards.

How long information is kept

Account information and saved material are kept while the account exists. Verification and password-change tokens are time-limited. Logs and backups may remain for limited periods under the providers’ normal security and backup schedules.

Account deletion and your rights

You can permanently delete your account and its account data from the account page. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to processing or receive a portable copy of your information. Contact the library to make a request; identity may need to be confirmed.
